Before we start, let’s explain what a podcast is. A podcast is a pre-recorded radio-like show that you can download and listen to for free. These are all available on Apple’s iTunes store that you can access from within the app. Some of the topics you can find include science, history and mathematics.
When browsing the iTunes store, if you come across a podcast you like the look of, you can choose to subscribe or just download a single episode. This way you can pick and choose exactly what you want and get pupils to answer questions or make notes as they listen.
Using Podcasts in the Classroom
- BBC Learning Asop’s Fables – Listen and respond to these classic tales (KS1/KS2)
- Stuff You Should Know – Covers a huge range of interesting topics (KS2/KS3)
- TEDTalks Education (for teachers) – Some of the world’s greatest educators, researchers, and community leaders share their stories and visions onstage at the TED conference.
There’s so much you can do with these podcasts and the potential for learning is huge. It’s just about finding the right podcast for your class.
