Spark creative discussion with the Book of Thunks

The Book of Thunks

The Book of Thunks is a book written by Ian Gilbert to help get your pupils thinking creatively.

Ian Gilbert is one of the UK’s leading educational innovators, speakers and writers with twenty years experience, working with young people and educationalists around the world.

A thunk, for those who don’t know, is a question to get you thinking that usually has no right or wrong answer.

What colour is Monday? Can you feel colour? Can you touch the internet? All of these help get the creative juices flowing by getting you thinking.

The book contains hundreds of thunks that you can use in class to help spark discussion. They’re great for a starter task in the morning to wake up pupils’ minds or as a way to introduce a topic.

We wouldn’t recommend the book being added to a primary school class library as some of the questions are not really suitable for the young ones. However, it’s definitely something that you should add to your little box of tricks so you can keep children’s brains thinking creatively.
